The Longest Day of my Life

January 16-17th

So the past 24 hours have been the longest hours of my life but I have loved every second of it! I have always enjoyed traveling and am so lucky and fortunate to be embarking on the journey! This blog post will most likely be a brief overview of what I have been doing traveling overseas!

So first, our professor JJ, insisted on us getting up at 7am on January 16th to go to the lovely cafeteria at our school. (I will not tell you if that is sarcasm or not… you can figure that out). But it was a great bonding time with the travelers going along too!

At 5pm, we got ready to hit the road to O’Hare. Mind you, we have been up since 6:30 am at this point. Sam Ramsey and I have been going through outfits, weighing our luggages, and deciding on not bringing those cute pairs of shoes because our weight limit is 50 pounds… try packing for a 2 week trip to Sweden being two fashionistas. It’s HARD!

We got to O’Hare after being stuck in traffic for way to long because a car was on fire. Hope that guy is okay. Anyways… we got to the SAS terminal and Nicole realized that she had way to many liquids in her carry-on. So she had to take them out of her backpack and while doing that Nicole stabbed herself with a picture frame and started bleeding. So Nicole had a great start.

Once we got through security (which was a breeze for once) my friends and I decided to grab a bite to eat at a Chinese food place! Jackson and Matt, thanks for liking Chinese as much as me!

During the *8 hour flight* to Denmark, I didn’t sleep one bit. I can’t sleep on planes, so I’ve been up for literally 36 hours. And am thriving. But the flight was surprisingly very smooth and I actually really enjoyed it. I watched a few movies, talked to Sam on the flight, and tried resting! We were served dinner and breakfast and it was SO GOOD!

Once in Denmark, we had about a 2 hour layover to do whatever we wanted. Sam and I found the higher-end shops and obviously had a good look at them. Girls can dream… but I really enjoyed the Denmark airport it was so clean, updated, and so many coffee/juice places were there.

From there, we boarded the plane outside (I always think it’s so cool) and off we were to Gothenburg!

Once in Sweden, we got our travel passes, did some currency exchanges, and got in a taxi to head to our hostel!

For dinner we went to a REALLY yummy Italian place (check out my food menu tab for details) and afterwards JJ was kind enough to treat us to desert! Nicole and I got Skapa (which is kind of like a creme puff), Matt got chocolate cake and Sam got rocky road cake. It was unbelievable. We all had such good meals and are now full and ready to finally get some sleep!

Daily Reflection

  • Always bring band-aids in your carry on, you never know
  • Denmark looks like just flat lands of fields
  • I don’t fall asleep on planes
  • Italian places in Europe are actually better than Olive Gardens
