On our voyage to Sweden, we have 18 Carthage students, Professor Shields and his wife, and Jan P. Owens coming along. We are all business majors and many are marketing majors!

Sweden 2020
This study tour focuses on international business and marketing in Sweden; the largest Scandinavian country. The course will also focus on the history, culture and politics that helped transform this country into a major international trading nation. The course is divided into three sections: theory/background/preparation, experiential learning, and finally refection.

“J.J.” Shields
Assistant Professor of Management and Marketing
Professor Joseph (J.J.) Shields teaches courses in marketing and business management at Carthage. He has worked for several major corporations, including Miller Brewing Co., ABB Robotics, and Snap-on. He earned a B.S. in engineering from the University of Michigan, and an M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Jan P Owens
Head of Business at Carthage College
Jan has had a wonderful career at Carthage College but has recently retired. Professor Owens enjoyed teaching courses in Consumer Behavior, Marketing Research, and Marketing Communications, and supervising senior thesis projects. Her most recent publications can be found in the International Journal of Integrated Marketing Communications and The IMC Handbook: Readings and Cases in Integrated Marketing Communications, edited by Susan Jones and Steve Kelly.
